Serenity International Dental Clinic would like to inform all patients about our clinic schedule during the upcoming Tet holiday (Vietnamese Lunar New Year). Tet is the most important holiday in Vietnamese culture, and like most businesses in Vietnam, our clinic will be closed for a period to allow our team to celebrate with their families.

What Is Tet?

Tet Nguyen Dan, commonly known as Tet, is the Vietnamese Lunar New Year celebration. It is the most significant and widely observed holiday in Vietnam, marking the arrival of spring and the beginning of a new year on the lunar calendar. Tet is a time for family reunions, ancestral remembrance, feasting, and renewal.

During Tet, most businesses, government offices, and services in Vietnam close for several days to a week. Streets are decorated with flowers, especially yellow mai blossoms in the south and pink peach blossoms in the north, and families gather to share special meals and traditions.

Our Tet Holiday Schedule

Our clinic will be closed during the official Tet holiday period. The specific dates vary each year as Tet follows the lunar calendar. We will announce the exact closing and reopening dates each year on our website and social media channels well in advance.

Typically, our Tet closure follows this pattern:

  • Closing date: 1-2 days before Tet Eve (the last day of the lunar year)
  • Closed for: Approximately 5-7 days
  • Reopening date: Within the first week of the new lunar year

We recommend that patients planning treatment during the January-February period check with our team for the specific Tet holiday dates for the current year. For reference, see our past announcements for Lunar New Year 2020, New Year 2019, and Happy New Year 2015.

Important Information for Patients

Before the Holiday

  • Schedule appointments early. The weeks before Tet are busy at our clinic as patients try to complete treatment before the holiday. We recommend booking appointments well in advance during this period.
  • Complete ongoing treatment. If you are in the middle of a multi-visit treatment, please coordinate with our team to ensure all necessary appointments are scheduled before or after the Tet break.
  • Stock up on supplies. If you use specific dental products (prescribed mouthwash, orthodontic wax, etc.), ensure you have enough to last through the holiday period.

During the Holiday

  • Emergency contacts. For dental emergencies during the Tet holiday, please contact our clinic’s emergency line (provided to all active patients). We will do our best to arrange emergency care or direct you to an available facility.
  • General dental emergencies. Major hospitals in Hanoi maintain emergency departments that can address severe dental pain, trauma, or infections during the holiday period.
  • Temporary pain management. For minor dental discomfort, over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen (paracetamol) can provide temporary relief until the clinic reopens.

After the Holiday

  • Appointments resume promptly. Our clinic reopens with a full schedule shortly after the holiday period. We encourage patients to book post-Tet appointments in advance, as the first few days after reopening tend to be busy.
  • Treatment continuity. If you had a temporary restoration placed before Tet, please schedule your follow-up appointment as soon as the clinic reopens.

Planning Dental Tourism Around Tet

International patients planning a dental trip to Vietnam should be aware of the Tet holiday when scheduling their visit. While Tet is a fascinating cultural experience, it does affect dental clinic availability. Here are some tips:

  • Avoid scheduling treatment during Tet week. Most dental clinics, including ours, will be closed.
  • The weeks before Tet can be a good time to visit, as the festive atmosphere in Hanoi is wonderful, but book dental appointments early.
  • The weeks after Tet are also a good time, as clinics are fully operational and the weather in Hanoi is often pleasant.
  • Experience Tet if you can. If your schedule allows, experiencing Tet in Hanoi is a memorable cultural experience, even if dental treatment is paused for a few days.

Experiencing Tet in Hanoi

If you happen to be in Hanoi during Tet, here are some things to enjoy:

  • Flower markets around Quang Ba and the Old Quarter burst with peach blossoms, kumquat trees, and colorful flowers
  • Hoan Kiem Lake and the surrounding area are beautifully decorated
  • Traditional foods like banh chung (sticky rice cake), mut (candied fruits), and special Tet dishes are available everywhere
  • Pagoda visits are a traditional Tet activity, with Tran Quoc Pagoda and Perfume Pagoda being popular choices
  • Fireworks displays welcome the new year at midnight on Tet Eve
