“I’ll Save a Fortune” — But Will You Really?
The headline numbers are easy to find. A single dental implant in Sydney costs $4,500–$5,500. The same implant at Serenity International Dental Clinic in Hanoi costs $900. That’s a gross saving of $3,600 on a single tooth. For All-on-4, the gap is even more dramatic: $25,000 in Australia versus $7,500 in Vietnam — a gross saving of $17,500 per arch.
But gross savings are not money in your pocket. To understand whether dental tourism genuinely makes financial sense for your situation, you need to subtract the real costs of the trip: return flights, accommodation for however many nights you need, and any income you lose by taking time off work.
This is what most dental tourism articles don’t tell you clearly. A patient flying business class from New York, staying in a five-star hotel for ten nights, and foregoing ten days of consulting income may find their “savings” are smaller than they imagined — though still likely positive. A patient flying economy from Melbourne for a week of veneers, staying in a comfortable mid-range hotel, will clear several thousand dollars in net savings even after every cost is accounted for.
The calculator below does this arithmetic for you. Enter your procedure, where you live, how many units you need, and the actual costs of your trip. It will calculate your gross savings, your total trip cost, your net savings, and your return on investment — the single number that tells you whether the trip genuinely pays for itself. For context on what procedures cost at our clinic, see our dental costs page.

Typical Net Savings by Country and Procedure
The table below shows estimated net savings for the three most common dental tourism procedures, assuming economy flights of $1,000 return and 7 nights’ accommodation at $60 per night ($420). Total trip overhead: $1,420.
| Procedure | Units | Australian Saving | American Saving | UK Saving |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Single Implant | 1 | $2,180 | $2,680 | $1,180 |
| Single Implant | 3 | $9,720 | $11,220 | $7,720 |
| All-on-4 | 1 arch | $16,080 | $21,080 | $13,080 |
| All-on-4 | 2 arches | $33,580 | $43,580 | $27,580 |
| Porcelain Veneers | 8 | $11,740 | $13,740 | $9,740 |
| Porcelain Veneers | 16 | $24,900 | $28,900 | $20,900 |
These figures use the home-country prices from our calculator. Your exact figures will vary — use the calculator above for a personalised number. For a deeper breakdown of implant costs specifically, see our guide to dental work in Vietnam.
The table makes a key point visible: the more units you need, the stronger the ROI. A single crown might break even after travel costs. Sixteen veneers or two arches of All-on-4 generates savings that make the trip financially transformative.
What the Calculator Doesn’t Include
The calculator gives you the financial arithmetic. But several factors add genuine value that no spreadsheet can capture:
Our guarantee program. Serenity International Dental Clinic offers warranty coverage on implants, crowns, and major restorative work. If something requires adjustment after you return home, we have protocols to support you — either remotely or through a follow-up visit. This is not standard at most dental clinics in your home country, where a complaint is met with a new invoice. See our guarantee program for full terms.
No waiting lists. In the UK, NHS dental appointments for complex work can involve months of waiting — if you can get an appointment at all. In Australia, specialist waiting times for implants frequently extend to 3–6 months. At Serenity, your treatment begins within days of arrival. For patients in pain, or those who have already been waiting, this has real value.
Combining treatment with a holiday. Vietnam — and Hanoi specifically — is a genuinely exciting travel destination. Tripadvisor ranked Hanoi 4th in the world in 2026. The Old Quarter, street food, day trips to Ha Long Bay, and the wider country’s attractions mean your treatment visit is also a memorable travel experience. The holiday value is real and considerable, even if it doesn’t fit in a calculator cell.
Quality of life from a new smile. A full set of veneers, implants that replace teeth you’ve been missing for years, or Invisalign that finally addresses long-standing alignment issues — these changes affect daily confidence, social comfort, and quality of life in ways that compound over years and decades. The ROI of your smile is not only financial.
Currency and purchasing power. Your savings are denominated in USD for calculation purposes. In local terms, staying in Hanoi is inexpensive: good restaurants cost $5–$15, transport is cheap, and you will find your budget stretches considerably. Many patients find their total trip — including food, sightseeing, and travel within Vietnam — costs less than a week at home.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is dental tourism to Vietnam worth it financially?
For most patients from Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Canada, the UK, and Ireland, yes — particularly for procedures involving multiple units. A single implant may return $2,000–$3,000 after travel costs. Four veneers may break even. Eight or more veneers, All-on-4, or multiple implants will typically return $10,000–$30,000 in net savings against home-country prices. Use the calculator above with your actual flight and accommodation costs to see your personal figure. For more context, read our dental costs page.
How much do flights to Vietnam typically cost?
Return economy flights from Australia to Hanoi range from $700–$1,200 depending on airline, season, and booking lead time. From the UK or Ireland: $700–$1,100. From the United States (West Coast): $800–$1,400. From Canada or the US East Coast: $900–$1,600. Business class adds $2,000–$4,000 but remains viable for All-on-4 and full-arch cases where the net savings exceed $20,000. Entering $800 as the default in our calculator represents a reasonable mid-range estimate for most origins.
How long do I need to stay in Vietnam for dental treatment?
For crowns, veneers (up to 8 teeth), teeth whitening, and root canal treatments: 5–7 days is sufficient. Temporary restorations are placed on Day 1–2, the dental lab works overnight and over 2–3 days, and final fittings occur by Day 5–6. For dental implants: 7–10 days for single implants with healing time before crown fitting. For All-on-4: 10–14 days is recommended for implant placement, healing, and delivery of the provisional arch. For a detailed breakdown, see our 7-day and 14-day itinerary guides.
What if something goes wrong after I return home?
This is the right question to ask before choosing any clinic. At Serenity International Dental Clinic, we provide post-treatment support in several ways. For minor adjustments, our team will advise a local dentist on exactly what is needed and supply full records, X-rays, and material specifications. For anything requiring in-person attention, we will work with you on a return visit — and the cost of the return flight plus a short stay will almost always still leave you ahead financially versus having the remedial work done at home. Our guarantee program page outlines the full terms. We also recommend reading how to choose a dental clinic in Vietnam before booking anywhere.
Does my home country insurance cover dental work abroad?
Standard dental insurance in Australia, the UK, the US, Canada, and New Zealand does not cover elective procedures performed abroad. Travel insurance sometimes covers dental emergencies arising during a trip, but cosmetic and elective work is explicitly excluded. However, most patients choosing dental tourism do so precisely because their home-country insurance does not cover the procedure at all — or covers it inadequately. The full cost is out of pocket either way. The relevant comparison is the out-of-pocket cost in Vietnam versus the out-of-pocket cost at home. For more on navigating insurance when travelling for dental work, see our guide to travel insurance for dental work abroad.
