Dental implants are now the standard of care for missing teeth. Better than crown and bridge, they look, feel and function like natural teeth. They help prevent bone loss caused by a missing tooth root and do not require the adjacent teeth to be ground down. However, just like any other products, NOT ALL IMPLANTS ARE CREATED EQUAL. Patients might not be aware that there can be HUGE differences in dental implant systems, including variations in quality, technology, and scientific research.
At Serenity International Dental Clinic, we ONLY work with Nobel BioCare dental implants. So why do we choose them? What major factors that were taken into account?
1. Clinical data support
Dentistry, especially implantology is not just a science, but also an art. In other technologies, the latest technology is always preferred (the latest iPhone, the latest iMac, etc.). However, in dentistry a solution that has the strongest track record and backed by longest clinical data is the first choice.
Nobel BioCare is the first commercial dental implant manufacturer in the world. Its clinical data dates back in 1965 when the Swedish orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Brånemark who discovered the osseointegration process (the process which bone tissue fuses to metal titanium). Nowadays, Nobel BioCare Brånemark dental implant system is still used widely. It is backed with almost 50 years of clinical data research.
The use of commercially pure titanium (cpTi) dental implants has a long history of clinical success dating back to 1965 and Branemark's work (on osseointegration). Titanium’s excellent corrosion resistance, both in air and in biological fluids, which stems from the oxide layer that forms spontaneously on its surface and, thus, renders it biocompatible. Its mechanical properties, including a high strength-to-weight ratio and ease of processing also contribute to its ubiquity in implantology. Therefore, titanium will continue to be the first choice for dental implant manufacturer.
Nowadays, dental implant manufacturers use six different titanium-based bio-materials to fabricate dental implants. They are four grades of commercially pure titanium (grade 1 to 4) and two titanium alloys. As the grade goes up, the stronger the titanium.
Nobel BioCare only use the best commercially pure titanium grade 4 is for their implants to ensure they are the best, strongest dental implants in the market.
3. Reliability and long-term support
Dental implant is designed to last a lifetime. Therefore, it shoud be warranted for lifetime. However, could you believe in some implant providers that are not yet a few years old in the market, providing lifetime warranty of their implants? Indeed, they might run out of business in few years down the road.
Nobel BioCare has been in the market since 1978. It now employs over 2,500 employees, generates over US $650 million in annual revenue and is listed in SIX Swiss Exchange.
